Two birds with one stone: running and sightseeing!

Running is a fantastic way to get fit and running a new personal best in a competitive race is always going to give you a boost. It can be about so much more than that, though. By lacing up your trainers and getting outside, you can explore so many new places - and due to the increased speed, you get to see even more than you can by walking! Here are our top tips for exploring a new place by foot:

Make a list of must-see sights.

If you are in a new city, look up some local attractions and see how many you can get around on your morning run. Often the main sights are grouped together, so you can tick off quite a few within just a few miles. For an extra treat, look up a great local cafe and end your run there.

Don't forget your camera!

No doubt there will be lots of beautiful sights that you run past and interesting things you will want to remember. Using an armband [https://www.smashterminator.com/collections/classic/products/classic-range-sports-armband-blue?variant=25957032839] for your phone means that you will never be too far from a camera. Having your phone accessible is also a really sensible idea because it will allow you to check a map, or call someone should you get lost, or into any trouble while you're out exploring. You don't want to end up running an extra five miles just because you took the wrong turn!

See if there are any local races on.

There are hundreds and thousands of different races taking place all over the world, every day of the week. Look up if there are any taking place where you are heading and take part if you can. It is a great way to experience the running scene in a different neck of the woods and also means you don't have the worry of trying to find a route! The only problem will be choosing what kind of race to go for - a 5k or a half marathon, trail or road or mountain, or maybe something completely different altogether!
